Описание: Frequently hailed as the greatest movie star of all time, Elizabeth Taylor was a friend of Warhol’s in the 1970s and 1980s. The personification of charisma whose highly public life charged with drama, tragedy, and romance, this iconic muse was a perfect vehicle for Warhol’s vivid silkscreen portraiture derived from press clippings, publicity shots, and film stills. Warhol made over fifty portraits of her in all her incarnations-- from the ethereally beautiful child-actress (National Velvet, 1963) to the commanding, voluptuous screen goddess (Blue Liz as Cleopatra, 1962). Brought together for the first time, each portrait captures and amplifies the intensity, the extravagance, the carnality, and the resilience that were the unique hallmarks of Elizabeth Taylor’s notorious and beloved character. Andy Warhol (1928-1987) is widely regarded as a defining figure not only of the Pop Art movement of the 1960s but of an entire cultural era. He worked prodigiously across a vast range of media, including painting, photography, print-making, drawing, sculpture, film (sixty experimental films between 1963 and 1968), television (Andy Warhols TV, 1982 and Andy Warhols Fifteen Minutes, 1986), publishing (Interview magazine and various books), happenings, and performances.

Описание: Famous for his effortlessly chic Ultrasuede shirtdress and other modern classics, Halston was the defining American fashion designer of the 1970s. Just as his friend Andy Warhol challenged the canon of high art, Halston democratized fashion with elegant and urbane ready-to-wear clothes. "Halston and Warhol" complements a groundbreaking exhibition of clothes and accessories by Halston, art by Warhol, and photographs and ephemera that document the connections between the two men against the social backdrop of 1970s New York. Included are essays, interviews, and biographical timelines that cover topics such as Halston s importance in the canon of American couture, Warhol s Fashion TV, the similarities in their lives and careers, and the role of celebrity in art and fashion."

Описание: Commerce into art. This title deals with a critical observer of American society. Andy Warhol (1928-1987) is recognized today as the most important exponent of the Pop Art movement. He overturned the traditional understanding of art and placed in its stead a concept that retracts the individuality of the artist. Warhol was a critical observer of American society, exposing his compatriots' consumerism in his paintings ("Campbell and Brillo" series), as well as their fascination for sensational journalism. In 1963 Warhol founded his Factory in New York, literally a manufactory of ideas and work, which influenced film in the 1960s, published the influential magazine "Interview" in the late 1970s, and also produced Warhol's own artwork: Warhol conceived the idea, and a worker in his factory carried it out. The work remained (consciously) unsigned - a fact which nevertheless did nothing to diminish Warhol's reputation. He once complained that rich New Yorkers would willingly hang his Electric Chain in their living rooms - as long as its colours co-ordinated with the wallpaper and draperies. About the series: Every book in TASCHEN's "Basic Art Series" features: a detailed chronological summary of the artist's life and work, covering the cultural and historical importance of the artist; approximately 100 color illustrations with explanatory captions; and, a concise biography.
